When I was a kid, our local store had yogurt drinks that I really liked. Besides those, custard style Yoplait was my favorite yogurt. The yogurt drinks vanished for awhile, but are back now, custard style Yoplait is still around, but I have now discovered some new fun things, which, ironically, are rather opposite each other.
First, I discovered Stonyfield Whole Milk Yogurt. I'm a big fan of cream, so the advertisement of "cream on top" caught my eye. Sure enough, there is indeed a layer of cream on top, which is o so good to this cream lover. My favorite varities are French vanilla and Chocolate Underground.
Okay, so that discovery made a lot of sense given my history with cream. And then, I decided I ought to give Greek yogurt a try. I tried the Stonyfield French vanilla version and found it a bit odd, yet strangely intriguing. So, I decided to try the little Fage cups that have some fruit on the side. I liked those a bit better, and then began realizing something very strange indeed: I actually kind of liked the plain (as in really plain, not vanilla) yogurt itself. Greek yogurt has a texture like my beloved Yoplait Custard Style.
What makes these two so opposite is simply their calorie count: Stonyfield Cream on Top French Vanilla has about 230 calories for 8 oz, while Fage Total 2% has only about 130 per cup. Yeah, that sugar and cream really adds a few calories! Interesting that I'm so fond of them both.
